With the reign of Gossip Girl coming to an end with its series finale, the spot remained open for less than a month. Because that’s when The Carrie Diaries took the stage. And although it’s not yet as popular as Gossip Girl, since, after all, there are just 2 episodes out. And it will probably never be as popular as Sex and the City still is, since it is, after all, just another teen show. It’s got pretty much all it takes to become a hit in the teen world.
The Carrie Diaries is planning to be, as you probably know by know, a memoir of Carrie Bradshaw’s teen years. And since it’s a teen series, it’s all about firsts: first kiss, first love, first experiences, first job, first writings, and, of course, first time in New York. And as we sneaked up to see the Sex and the City series that our parents didn’t allow us to watch, today’s teens will probably hide in their rooms to watch The Carrie Diaries on their iPads. Because, although it’s not as explicit as Sex and the City was, there’s still a lot of talk about what goes around behind the curtains at night. And, although, this Carrie is pretty much the classic teenager, struggling to find her way, she is still the one that all her friends talk to about their experiences, and ask for her advice. So the basics are pretty much the same as with Sex and the City.
But all these teens, the high-school years, the dramas, the schemes and intrigues reminded me of Gossip Girl. And I bet there will be actual gossip coming along the way. After all, we’re talking about a teen show here. And even if teen Carrie is not nearly as rich and popular as the teen Serena van der Woodsen, she’s got the style, the entourage, and all that drama surrounding her, to become this year’s (and why not, next year’s, as well, until some other cutie pops up) teen icon.
So, parents, get ready, because this is about to get heavy And boyfriends, as well. Since I think there will be at least a couple of 20 something year olds also getting caught up in all this teen Sex and the City drama. Because when Gossip Girl meets Sex and the City, the result might not be smart. Or Emmy worthy. But it’s definitely buzz worthy.
