Friday Movie
No CommentsThe One And Only Dictator
This weekend is pretty poor on movie releases in the U.S. There’s the typical Adam Sandler movie. A musical comedy starring Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin. An Ethan Hawke trailer that, judging by its trailer, looked like the type of movie where you’re all tense waiting for something to happen, but nothing really does. A music related documentary. And yet another romantic comedy. Definitely not the type of movies I’d go watch at the cinema.
So, if all the blockbusters didn’t give you the time to see The Dictator, now’s the perfect time. And trust me, it will be worth it, especially if you’re a Sacha Baron Cohen fan.
Some say he’s crazy, others that he’s absolutely brilliant. Some don’t quite know when to take him seriously, others take him almost too seriously. But, no matter what, Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the most complex actors of our time. He has taken acting to a whole new level, and you can’t be anything but impressed to see him actually become one with his characters.
Besides, The Dictator is directed by the same Larry Charles who created Borat and Bruno. So, if you enjoyed these two movies, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this one as well. As for the plot, it’s a typical Sacha Baron Cohen parody focused on the stereotypes defining the members of a certain culture. After the Bad Boy Ali G, the Third World Country Borat and Bruno the fashion icon, Sacha Baron Cohen takes the comedy to the next level by portraying a dictator with his unmistakable sense of humor. So, I guess watching it this weekend would make it a win from every point of view.
